Coloma High School repeats as 2019 #SWMISpirit tournament champs

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Kim LaSata on Monday congratulated the Coloma Comets for winning the 2019 Southwest Michigan Spirit Tournament.

“I would like to congratulate students, parents, faculty, and alumni of the Coloma Comets and the surrounding community, for their back-to-back win of the #SWMISpirit championship,” said LaSata, R-Bainbridge Township. “Coloma residents should be proud of the spirit and teamwork they displayed throughout the competition for the second year in a row. I thank everyone who participated and look forward to making next year’s even more of a success.”

The Comets defeated Howardsville Christian in the final round, which concluded April 19. The champions totaled 3,920 points in the final round of the tournament, earning them the title trophy and a $250 prize from AT&T Pioneers for the accomplishment.

The tournament began March 18 with 31 area high schools competing in four brackets. Participants competed by sharing and liking photos on Facebook and by voting in online polls.
