LANSING, Mich. — Legislation sponsored by Sen. Kim LaSata that designates a portion of I-94 in Benton Township as the Kevin D. White Memorial Highway has been signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“Despite the risks that came with his job, Kevin dedicated nine years of his life to helping improve Southwest Michigan communities. He worked to improve our safety while sacrificing his own,” said LaSata, R-Coloma.
White was a Michigan Department of Transportation worker who tragically died in October 2019 from injuries sustained while on the job in Berrien County.
Senate Bill 48, now Public Act 88 of 2021, creates the Kevin D. White Memorial Highway, which begins at the I-94 and I-196 interchange and extends south to the Napier Avenue exit.
“With the governor’s signature, the final step to establishing the Kevin D. White Memorial Highway has been completed,” LaSata said. “I want to thank everyone who recognized the importance of this measure by showing their support and helping it become a reality. Kevin’s memory and dedication to Southwest Michigan will live on and I hope this memorial serves as a sign of the true appreciation we, as residents, have for both his work and sacrifice.”
