LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Kim LaSata on Tuesday announced the winners of the favorite Michigan landmark drawing contest launched earlier this month.
The winner representing grades K-5 is Gwendolynn Schmidtman, for her drawing of the Mackinac Bridge. Schmidtman is a fifth grader at Lake Michigan Catholic School in St. Joseph.
The winner representing grades 6-12 is Aryssa Beshires, for her drawing of Turnip Rock, which is in Port Austin. Beshires is a 10th grade student from Eau Claire.
“I was totally impressed with the quality of drawings submitted by Southwest Michigan students for the contest,” said LaSata, R-Bainbridge Township. “The 21st District is blessed with some very talented artists. It was hard to pick winners, but Aryssa’s and Gwendolynn’s drawings stood apart as the best. Congratulations to them!”
The contest was open to all schoolchildren in the 21st Senate District.
