LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Kim LaSata on Monday announced Menden-based Cowboy Up as the first recipient of her Small Business of the Month award.
“I am proud to announce Cowboy Up as the first recipient of my Small Business of the Month award in conjunction with Small Business Appreciation Week,” said LaSata, R-Bainbridge Township. “I recently had the pleasure of meeting with owners Larry and Dee Shannon to give them their well-deserved award. Despite the many difficulties over the past year, Cowboy Up has managed to stay open, and the Shannons are committed to fully reopening their beloved and fan-favorite small business as soon as possible. I am proud of them and of our Southwest Michigan community for continuing to support small and family-owned businesses.”
Cowboy Up, which received several nominations, is a country-themed restaurant, line dancing and live music venue.
One loyal fan of Cowboy Up said, “This small business may appear to be nothing more than a barn in the cornfields of Southwest Michigan or may appear to be easily lost and forgotten in the cascade of many small businesses going out of business in 2020. But Cowboy Up is so much more than a barn, or a small business; it is a home full of roots, boots, and family.”
Residents wishing to nominate a small business may do so at https://www.statesenatorkimlasata.com/business-of-the-month/ or by sending an email to [email protected]. Nominations need only be submitted once.
