LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Kim LaSata on Monday recognized The Garden Ice Arena as the most recent recipient of her Small Business of the Month award.
The Garden Ice Arena was started by husband and wife AJ and Becky Glowacki, who sought to create an atmosphere where both children and adults could go for an afternoon of fun.
AJ and his seven siblings grew up playing hockey and he dreamed of one day becoming a coach. In December of 2016, with the help of his wife, among many others, the plans for The Garden Ice Arena and AJ’s lifelong dream began taking shape.
“As a coach and player, AJ’s love for hockey helped mold the vision that started this venture,” said LaSata, R-Coloma. “I want to congratulate both AJ and Becky on being nominated for this award and thank them for creating an atmosphere where people can go to play, learn or just enjoy themselves. I also want to commend their dedication to area youth.”
The Garden Ice Arena offers skating clinics for all talent levels and free skates for those who just want to get out on the ice and have fun. The arena also offers specific hockey training and serves as the practice facility for local hockey clubs.
“The Glowacki family does a tremendous job carrying out the admirable characteristics that this award is supposed to represent,” LaSata said. “I am proud to present The Garden Ice Arena with this award. I also want to congratulate AJ and Becky on their success and thank them for providing such an outstanding venue and service to the people in their community.”
Residents wishing to nominate a small business may do so at www.StateSenatorKimLaSata.com/business-of-the-month/ or by sending an email to [email protected]. Nominations only need to be submitted once.
