LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Kim LaSata on Tuesday issued the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer formally declared a state of emergency in St. Joseph County in response to the recent storms:
“I recently sent a letter to Gov. Whitmer requesting a state of emergency declaration for St. Joseph County to assist with the extensive damage left in the wake of the recent storms that rolled across our state.
“I am pleased the governor granted this request. This will make additional resources available from the state to help local officials and Southwest Michigan families.
“We are blessed to have so many people in our community who selflessly stepped up in a time of need, and I want to thank everyone who has helped — from local officials and public workers to residents who helped clear downed branches and trees to the line workers who worked day and night to restore power to the area.
“I am proud everyone was able to come together to help impacted families.”
